BOTOX

In April 2002, BOTOX was approved by the FDA and has become the fastest growing cosmetic treatment performed by surgeons in the U.S. according to the ASAPS.

WHAT IS BOTOX?
BOTOX is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, also known as botulinum toxin Type A and is used to relax the muscles that create frown lines, laugh lines and crow’s feet. BOTOX was discovered accidentally in 1987 by a Canadian husband- and- wife doctor duo. Dr. Jean Carruthers, an ophthalmologist in Vancouver, discovered that after a patient had been injected for eye spasms, the frown lines had notably diminished. This discovery led to the pioneering of its cosmetic use by Dr. Carruthers and her dermatologist husband, Dr. Alistair Carruthers.

HOW LONG WILL BOTOX LAST?
Typically, BOTOX will last 3 - 6 months and muscles may take up to one week to become paralyzed after being injected.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?
Patients can experience slight discomfort from the needle as well as bruising in the immediate area. Other side effects that have been reported are headache, nausea, respitory infection, and blepharoptosis.

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM BOTOX?There are two types of lines on the face, dynamic and static. Dynamic lines are those that appear when frowning, smiling or laughing. Static (permanent) lines are those which are visible even when no facial expression is present.
BOTOX successfully addresses the dynamic wrinkles.

OTHER USES
BOTOX has also been recognized to dramatically reduce Hyperhidrosis a medical term used to describe excessive sweating of palms, feet, and underarms. BOTOX has also been effective in treating migraine headaches which result from overworked (tense) muscles in the forehead.

WHO CAN PERFORM BOTOX TREATMENTS?
Since this phenomenon of BOTOX, more and more physicians are jumping on the band wagon as a “quick” way to make a buck. As with any other surgical procedure, BOTOX should be administered by a qualified, experienced physician specially trained in administering BOTOX in a healthcare setting.. Dr. Codner has extensive training in the proper administration of BOTOX and has treated hundreds of patients.
